Statehouse Arena
Tallahassee, FL
Statehouse Arena is located within a couple of blocks of the FSU campus, between Lafayette and Pensacola. The 90 unit, 376 bed community consists of two separated and stepped apartment buildings, partially above a podium and wrapping a parking garage.
The site presented some challenges in both its shallow depth and extreme grades. Specially designed units were created to allow for double loaded corridors along both streets. The northern building sits a top a large secant foundation wall, designed to address the elevation changes between the two streets.
With a limited footprint and small on-grade courtyard, the decision was made to place the pool deck above the parking garage. Coordination of this amenity area above the garage was challenging but well-worth the results. The distributed amenities between the ground level and rooftop afford not only views but help to energize the residents creating a variety of spaces for their use.
