Providence at the Heights

Providence at the Heights, or PATH, is a 3-story 54 unit supportive housing facility operated by the prison re-entry nonprofit Second Chance Center; the three-year-old building is filled with apartments for people who have been previously incarcerated. 

PATH features gathering areas, a courtyard and flexible spaces for various program needs. The wood interiors offer a calming visual and tactile texture with large windows. The addition of dense sound insulation in each apartment are an intentional change from that of prison. The design for PATH was intensely influenced by trauma-informed design, which aims to ease the physical and mental toll from past harm.

The building consists of CLT floor panels, heavy timber columns and beams.
