Brown University Brook Street Residence Hall
Providence, RIIn the fall of 2023, two new residence halls were opened: Chen Family Hall at 250 Brook Street and Danoff Hall at 259 Brook Street. These five-story buildings cater to upper-division students and include two-, three-, and four-bedroom suites, shared kitchens, and improved programming areas, collectively increasing the housing capacity by 351 beds.
Comprised of 5 stories of a Steel-Timber Hybrid structure, the buildings utilize conventional wide flange steel beams and columns for the building frame and 5-ply CLT floor slabs for the floor structure. The CLT floor slabs span the narrow width of the building, primarily in triple span. The building's lateral force resisting system is composed of a combination of steel braced frames and CMU shafts.
