Jones Valley Teaching Farm

Birmingham, AL

Jones Valley Teaching Farm (JVTF), a Birmingham, AL-based non-profit, provides food-based education to students from pre-K through 12th grade in the greater Birmingham area. Full-time instructors work with teachers to engage students in food, farming, and culinary arts through cross-curricular, standards-based lessons.
Before the construction of the new Center for Food Education, JVTF operated out of a small trailer. The renovated downtown campus now includes a spacious kitchen, classrooms, and room for more students, teachers, and local residents. A central outdoor mass timber gathering pavilion, inspired by farmstead porches, connects the interior education spaces to the farm.
