Dixie Fire Replacement Modular Mass Timber Homes

Greenville, CA

Three modular, mass timber homes using passive house principles to start replacing the 660 homes in Greenville, California that were destroyed in August 2021 when the Dixie Fire swept through the region. Just two years after the event, three homes were completed for their owners. All three were permitted under Master Permits in Plumas County, CA for ease of future building. The small, fire-resistant homes are designed under the California Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) codes to be fire-resistant. Modularly planned with prefabricated mass timber by DR Johnson just 300 miles away in Riddle, OR, the homes are designed to be built out of local wood once local sawmills and potentially mass timber fabrication plants get up and running on a local saw mill site in Crescent Mills, CA. Modular wet cores were constructed in Washington State. The homes are designed in three different sizes, with standard floorplates at 600 SF, 800 SF and 1,000 SF, with a number of add-on combinations and ADU options for future expansion and growth.
