Blockhouse

Spokane, WA

Blockhouse is a modular Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) micro-living project in Spokane’s Perry District. It transforms two single-family lots into fourteen thoughtfully designed units ranging from 200 to 800 square feet by maximizing density without compromising livability. The project addresses Spokane’s housing shortage while prioritizing sustainability and affordability.

As one of the city’s first CLT projects, it displays an innovative use of wood by leveraging its scalability and modularity, low-carbon footprint, and structural performance. Off-site prefabricated modular construction minimized site disruption and waste, aligning with sustainable design principles, and pushing beyond typical forest certification standards.

Blockhouse excels in functionality, aesthetic appeal, and technical performance, including fire resistance, acoustics, and energy efficiency, while harmonizing with its urban context. Serving as a replicable model for urban micro-living, Blockhouse demonstrates how CLT can redefine sustainable and efficient housing solutions.
