Rice University – Hanszen College

Houston, TX

Timberlyne Group partnered with Forney Construction to build the first mass timber collegiate residential facility in Texas. This five-story building is 57,500 square feet and features residential rooms, suites, a lobby, and outdoor terraces. The building was constructed to replace the original 1957 Hanszen College Wing. The newly improved wing now has a reduced, more efficient footprint, and allows more space for future growth at Rice University. The design intent was to provide as much exposed mass timber as possible to add to the biophilic design elements, giving the building a natural welcoming aesthetic.
