Chapparal High School
Killeen, TXThe project encompassed a wide range of enhancements, covering site improvements, ADA compliance upgrades, asbestos removal, foundation repairs, and enhancements to both the mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems and the interior and exterior spaces. Site improvements specifically involved a redesigned front parking layout, additional student parking, revised accessible pathways, upgraded site lighting, irrigation systems, and landscaping.
Dunaway provided structural engineering services for Killeen ISD's Chaparral High School, situated on a 67-acre plot. The school boasts a capacity for 2,500 students within its expansive 450,000 square feet. Notably, the design incorporates exposed glue laminated timbers in the cafeteria and entry areas, complemented by grand learning stairs that open up into the cafeteria space.
Facility highlights include both a practice and competition gymnasium, as well as a performing arts center equipped with flyloft and lighting decks. Additionally, Dunaway designed ancillary structures on the site such as concession buildings, dugouts, and a three-level press box offering panoramic views of the field from above the bleachers.
