Blue Lake Park - Operations and Maintenance Campus

Fairview, OR

The Curry Building at Blue Lake Park is a critical facility supporting Metro’s operation and maintenance of 17,000+ acres of regional parks and natural areas.  Constructed in the 1960s, the existing building has evolved to include offices, a wood shop, welding shop, auto repair facility, and numerous storage areas for equipment, tools, supplies, and vehicles.  FFA has been tasked with redeveloping the facility to support Metro's expansion and growth, as well as seismic and energy resiliency.

FFA began by conducting interviews and holding interactive workshops with Metro staff to understand departmental relationships, operational needs, and aspirations.  This programming process along with analysis of the existing facilities determined the highest and best use of the existing Curry Building was to renovate and reorganize it to be exclusively a repair and storage facility, then to move office functions into a new building on the site.  With these goals established, FFA and our consultants developed site and building layouts to optimize workflows, organization, and circulation so the different staff groups can safely and efficiently move through their workdays.
