The Sail Newport main building showcases mass timber construction, featuring glulam beams integrated with dovetail metal hangers for both structural efficiency and architectural appeal. The staircase was custom-engineered to meet specific load requirements while optimizing space. For lateral support, the design incorporates round braces, or “spars,” repurposed from boat masts, blending functionality with a unique nautical aesthetic.
