Cloverdale Recreation Centre
Surrey, BCThis was the first public facility to be developed in the new master plan for Surrey's Cloverdale Fairgrounds. The design process followed Surrey's Sustainable Design Charter.
The 65,000 square foot, two-storey building is a prominent community landmark in the City of Surrey. The Cloverdale Recreation Centre has a twin gymnasium, a 10,000 square foot fitness centre, multi-purpose rooms, along with generous support facilities & program spaces dedicated to youth, child-minding and seniors. The Recreation Centre shows the evolution of Cloverdale from a rural area to a part of B.C's fastest growing city.
With an emphasis on the use of wood in this project, a uniform Glulam beam shape that could be connected in multiple different orientations was created. Beautifully-curved Glulam roof beams help to provide breathtaking interior spaces, and an exterior that is wave-like.
