Vancouver Affordable Housing Agency (VAHA) Burrard

Vancouver, BC

A part of the Canadian Government’s National Housing Strategy, this new mixed-use building will fill an affordable housing need and provide community and social service centres for the city of Vancouver. The proposed mass timber-hybrid structure will be amongst the tallest in the world, right in the heart of Davie Village in downtown Vancouver.

This 17-storey building will stand at 172 feet tall, providing 154 social housing units, a new home for LGBTQ community centre, QMUNITY, and commercial units on the ground floor. This high-performance structure embraces Passive House standards and will employ cross-laminated timber technology – a pioneering use of high-rise wood residential construction in BC. It will feature indoor and outdoor amenity spaces, courtyards, outdoor children’s play areas, communal seating spaces, and urban agriculture.

VAHA Burrard uses point supported cross laminated timber floors, on steel posts, prefabricated panelized exterior walls, and a ductile concrete core that will be jump formed from the pit. The structure is anticipated to be erected in record time.
