SHOPPER’S DRUG MART FLAGSHIP
Toronto, ONShoppers Drug Mart’s new flagship retail building at the corner of Yonge and Charles Streets in downtown Toronto, was the first mass timber project in Toronto to have cleared the city approvals process. The original goal of the design was to retain and restore the 1880’s heritage façades which are located at a key Yonge Street view terminus.
The building integrates the rich character of the original heritage structure with a new contemporary, historically sensitive infill. The construction approach uses innovative new mass timber technologies to take full advantage of the heritage structure and to help address the limitations of the site.
