Korean Presbyterian Church

Edmonton, AB

The client wanted a modern building expressing the congregation's Canadian values and aspirations, rather than reflecting on traditional Korean heritage and building traditions. With both the structure and finishes being entirely of wood (and concrete), the space is very inviting and visually warm. The use of a Tudor arch and A-frame construction creates an interior space that is both cost effective, and dramatic. Wood was an extremely cost-effective solution in this project, coming in well below original cost estimates using other materials. A combination of engineered wood and solid sawn lumber had a variety of applications for this project: interior and exterior, structural and non-structural, and exposed and concealed.
