Wagner Green Toronto YMCA - Affordable Housing
Toronto, ONGroundbreaking has taken place for a new 18,354 sq. ft., 6-storey mass timber building for the YMCA of Greater Toronto. It will provide 31 units (each with a kitchenette and bathroom) for 2SLGBTQ+ youth who are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
The building will be connected to the existing 2-storey Vanauley Street Centre for Youth, and is being built on an existing parking lot.This rapid housing project uses cross-laminated timber (CLT) for the walls and floors of the building.
· Units will be offered as rent-geared-to-income, with no tenant paying more than 30% of their income on rent.
· Tenants will receive wraparound support services from by the YMCA.
· Building will have centralized ground source heat pumps.
The project is supported by the City of Toronto and the Government of Canada’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). The RHI is delivered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) under the National Housing Strategy.
