St Thomas Natatorium
Mendota Heights, MNThe new Saint Thomas Natatorium is an aquatic facility designed to enhance both athletic performance and spectator experience. This two-story structure features a pool level and a spectator level with bleacher seating, creating an optimal viewing environment.
Sterling Structural provided the Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) deck, which serves as a key element in the hybrid structural system. The exposed CLT panels rest on a steel truss structure, combining the warmth and sustainability of mass timber with the strength and durability of steel. This approach not only delivers structural efficiency but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the facility.
This project highlights the benefits of hybrid construction, demonstrating how CLT can seamlessly integrate with traditional materials to create a modern, high-performance space.
