NW 28th Brewery + Office Redevelopment
Portland, ORLocated in Portland’s re-emerging industrial district, this mixed-use warehouse is home to two tenants. It includes a taproom for Great Notion Brewery along NW 28th Avenue and, accessed via separate entrance, a private office and space to store a vintage automobile collection. Cross-laminated timber was used as a structural and finish material in both spaces. The taproom’s shed form was sliced and cantilevered along the west façade, and a CLT box taproom inserted and slid away to form a strong entry to the brewery. The CLT roof is routed into the in-walls for structural connection, which allowed for sloping of the roof without an additional parapet. In the private office and storage space, a two-story CLT box-within-a-box was constructed from a concrete base. The box is composed of a series of CLT planes, glass and COR-TEN frames. It is the first four-sided CLT structure permitted and built in the City of Portland.
