Ledding Library
Milwaukie, OR
The new 18,000-square-foot library provides community members with dedicated and flexible areas for learning and reading. As the City prioritized sustainability, Timberlab and Swinerton provided alternative design studies to study several building systems during preconstruction. Numerous sustainable concepts were incorporated during this process, including a radiant mechanical system, a solar array, and envelope enhancements, that will help the project achieve an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 24.
Initially, the City of Milwaukie considered a seismic retrofit, expansion, and ADA upgrades to their existing community library first constructed in 1964. Through thoughtful due diligence cost studies, the City determined they could achieve the best value by building a new state-of-the-art library. Not only that, but it provides an added benefit by responding to the warm character of Scott Park located adjacent to the building.
