Candlewood Suites on Ft. Drum
Fort Drum, NYThis 65,000 SF, four-story, 100 room hotel was similar to the Redstone hotel but was designed as a hybrid structural system that included CLT for the floors, roofs, shafts, and bearing wall systems. The nonbearing walls utilized panelized engineered wood stud construction. Although prefabricated bath pods were not utilized on this project, the hybrid componentized structural systems were fabricated off-site, shipped, and installed on-site concurrent with the CLT superstructure without compromising structural performance.
This was the second structure in the PAL portfolio designed to meet the highly restrictive military Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection (ATFP) requirements. The hotel was 20% larger than the baseline Privatized Army Lodging (PAL) hotel, the workforce was 44% smaller, used 34% fewer manhours to complete the structure, and remained 24% faster, contributing to an overall (without POD's and prefab mechanical ducting) project schedule savings of 10%.
