Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Bus Terminal
Vaughan, ONThe Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) Bus Terminal is a combination of concrete, steel, and mass timber, with architecturally exposed structure throughout. Shaped like a horseshoe in plan, it includes an enclosed pavilion and two exterior wings that surround the main bus loop. In her role at a previous firm, Tanya Luthi acted as the main structural designer, which included complete design of all connections.
At the front of the pavilion, where the glulam beams cantilever past the supports, a moment connection with internal epoxied steel plates provided a clean aesthetic. Careful detailing of the exterior structure at the bus platforms ensured the wood elements remain protected from direct exposure to UV rays and wind-driven rain.
