Nepahwin Residence
Greater Sudbury, ON
A residential renovation was designed in preparation for retirement. A failing balcony was converted into spaces for retirement construction activity, specifically a balcony and solarium. The solarium also doubles as a tea house for formal ceremonies.
The construction process was part of the retirement activity so details have been arranged for the owners’ participation. For example, the nail laminated wood deck and columns were easily maneuvered incrementally. An extened, low pressure construction schedule was also suitable.
Peripheral site features including a fence were also built from the existing disassembled balcony wood. Special care was taken to use details that could accommodate the weaknesses in the older wood.
