Chewelah High School Stadium Press Box
Chewelah, WAThe aging high school stadium press box serving students in Chewelah, Washington sorely needed replacement. A tight design schedule - as well as impending fall football schedule - lead our team to consider alternative building delivery methods. Working closely with the mass timber supplier Mercer, this project includes flat-packed 3-ply CLT panels as well as innovative CLT studs which utilize master panel off-cuts to frame the window wall.
The client required the elevated vertical structure to be galvanized steel for longevity. The CLT panels were CNC'd to nest onto the steel structure as well as nest to each other for ease of installation. A total of 5 picks completed the CLT panel lifts - in addition to the small interior partial demising walls (which also provided support to the roof) and CLT studs / headers / sills at the wall to receive press windows.
All CLT is to remain exposed to the interior.
