Brooks Museum of Art
Memphis, TN
The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is one of the largest public art museums in the American South, with a collection ranging from contemporary to ancient times. Timberlab has partnered with Herzog & de Meuron, Archimania. and general contractor Grinder Taber & Grinder on MBMA's new building: The Brooks Downtown. This project is part of a redevelopment plan in Memphis to invest in the historically underutilized riverfront district.
The design team for the Brooks had no prior experience with mass timber and sought advice from Timberlab early in the process. The team even built a full-scale architectural mock-up to illustrate the full capabilities of mass timber. Timberlab's preconstruction experience demonstrated our deep understanding for the stakeholders' aesthetic and scheduling needs.
