Rosemary Brown Arena (South Burnaby Ice Arena)
Burnaby, BCThis new ice arena complex integrates a fresh approach to traditional arena design. As an inviting, central hub for the community, the architecture focuses on natural light and connections to the outdoors as arena roofs look north through glazed windows.
Located by the Edmonds SkyTrain Station, the 87,000 square feet facility comprises two NHL-sized ice rinks where each arena can host 200 to 300 spectators. The structure, composed of a mixed steel and concrete base with a beautifully exposed mass timber roof throughout and feature trusses in both rinks.
Other amenities include a skate shop, concession space, multi-purpose and meeting rooms, warm viewing area, and an outdoor patio.
The client aims to minimize its environmental footprint with energy efficient design and water conservation strategies. As a recreational hub for south Burnaby’s growing community, the project will be funded through the municipality’s Community Benefit Bonus funds.
