Royal BC Museum Provincial Archives, Research and Collections Building
Victoria, BCThe Royal British Columbia Museum's Provincial Archives, Research, and Collections Building in Colwood, British Columbia will house the Province’s collections, research departments and the BC Archives. Once built the facility will be open to the public. People will be able to view the more than 7 million artifacts on site, access the BC Archives, watch researchers at work through accessible lab areas, and engage with museum staff on site. The building will be constructed utilizing mass timber and will implement sustainable strategies to achieve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The natural, carbon-capturing mass timber structure is inherently appropriate to the building’s forested West Coast location. Mass timber aligns with the project’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve high energy efficiency. Upon completion, the 15,200 square-metre collections and research building will meet CleanBC energy efficiency standards and LEED Gold certification.
