North Plains Public Works Facility

North Plains, OR

The North Plains Public Works Facility is a two-story, 12,500 SF ground-up building built to house the city's public works office and operations.  In addition, the building will act as an Emergency Operations Facility for the city and will be able to perform critical city functions during an emergency event.

CLT was explored early on as a structural solution for the project.  In addition to many of the obvious benefits of CLT, the weight reduction, in comparison to steel, was a major factor in ultimately confirming its use.  The site had poor soil conditions, which would require some mitigation, but the ligher CLT frame would assist with reducing the cost of the foundation as well.

Roughly 7,500 SF is dedicated for equipment storage and field operations which is located within a large 4-bay ------.  At the ground level there is a large conference, open and private offices, restrooms, reception area and a collaborative break room.  The second floor, which is reachable by stair or elevator, has additional open and private offices, a conference room and a restroom.
