Jeanne M. Stine Community Park Pavilion
Troy, MI"Consistency Through Nature" is the theme of Jeanne M. Stine Community Park. This project was born when the owner requested an ice rink with adjacent pavilion be placed on the site. From those initial discussions, the owner and design team worked together to develop a site that now hosts a pavilion, a refrigerated ice skating ribbon, zamboni garage, walking trails and pedestrian bridge, all of which are designed to mimic the emotion, look, feel and experiences the State of Michigan has to offer.
In order to capture the essence of "Pure Michigan" the landscape architecture team guided the overall design, injecting nature into all of the design components. You can see this in the concealed connections and exposed CLT deck that make the pavilion look more like a canopy of pines, standing tall at the tip of the Keweenaw. Or the minute copper and iron detailing, an ode to Michigan's mining industry. You'll see native plantings throughout the site, specifically chosen for their ability to host Michigan's wildlife. And of course, water. The skating ribbon being at the center of the design, flows freely like the AuSable and allows skaters to rest among an island of trees.
The pavilion itself hosts a 2,500sqft open-air great hall along with a skate rental center, concessions and restrooms. The project was completed in 2024.
