Jonathan Heppner is currently a Principal at LEVER Architecture where he leads the firm's mass timber research, testing, and innovation initiatives. Born and raised in Oregon, his interest in timber detailing and construction led to his management role on Framework, the first wood high-rise design in the US to receive approval for construction. Other notable projects include the Union Way retail arcade, campus housing at Oregon Health and Science University, and the adaptive re-use of RedFox Commons, a renovation and expansion of two heavy timber structures in Northwest Portland. His primary focus is the advancement of timber building technology through practice, research. He provided lead architectural design on the NSF-Funded NEHRI Tall Wood project to test the 10-story rocking wall mass timber structure in 2022.
