Kelly Springfield Building
Seattle, WARenovation and a vertical expansion of the landmark 1917 Kelly Springfield Motor Truck Building preserved the façade and some interior elements while incorporating materials and architectural features that accentuate the area’s historic auto row vernacular. Preservation of the historical structure’s first level ceiling is a critical visual element. The project was successfully granted a code alternate variance to replace the ceiling with repurposed heavy timber attached to a concrete structure above for structural integrity, a creative way to repurpose heavy timbers for large loads.
