Community MusicWorks Center

Providence, RI

The Community MusicWorks Center is a gathering place for music and community. It will be a central and inclusive gathering place in the heart of Providence, RI's West End that embodies CMW's mission and values; an anchor in the community where students, families, audiences, and neighbors can comfortably engage with a remarkable spectrum of cultural activities; a welcoming space supporting ongoing dialogue, inspiration, and connection.

The two-story structure and below grade basement include a 1,300sf performance space along with music education rooms and support spaces. CLT floor and roof panels are supported on a glulam post and beam frame in combination with bearing walls and are exposed wherever acoustically possible. In addition to the floor panels, CLT bearing walls and shear walls are used throughout the building where walls are visually exposed, including at stair and elevator shafts. At non-visual structural walls, panelized light-framed wood walls are used, allowing the light-framed construction to keep pace with the surrounding mass timber systems.
