Juno East Austin
Austin, TXJuno brings sustainability to all of the design decisions. Both operational and embodied carbon performance were central in the design of the project and the expression of wood, as a biophilic material, was a key to communication of that philosophy to the building occupants. Not only was the building itself a demonstration of what is possible for multi-family structures, but the whole supply chain contributed to to be a milestone in project execution.
The Mass Plywood Decking is limited to 4” thick, eliminating more than 33% of the wood fiber required in typical projects with 6” decks. Similarly the Columns and Beams of the project are also limited in dimension to 4” resulting in an ultra-lightweight Mass Timber Structure. Additionally, the shape and configuration of the columns and beams are specifically designed to allow the project MEP systems to ‘flow through’ the structure but be concealed from the view of the occupants. This is all accomplished without the need of specialty fabricated metal connector plates or gussets.
