Fairview Middle School

Bremerton, WA

The Fairview Middle School Replacement project will include construction of new classrooms, kitchen, distributed administration, community health and commons spaces, and refurbishing of the existing gym/band/choir facilities on the existing Fairview Middle School site. Located on a site abundant with trees, the design of the school drew inspiration from regional structures such as forest service watch towers with their masonry bases, safety and refuge, and the emphasis on natural views and outlooks. The use of color and texture within the building will create a warm and inspiring interior, drawing from the forest’s under story, trunk, and canopy. Through careful material selection and the use of cross laminated timber (CLT) the building will immerse occupants within the forest whether they are roaming the courtyard or the halls.
