Blue Horizon Elementary School
Buckeye, AZBlue Horizon Elementary School in Buckeye, Arizona welcomed K-8 students for the first time in the fall of 2021. From the macro scale, the campus is arranged along the main spine like a Century Plant with academic communities branching out. A ‘Community Oasis’ at the center of the campus symbolizes water which provides a space for student life to happen. The campus is composed of 5 buildings, which feature open-web trusses in major areas like the cafeteria and gymnasium. In the interior spaces, wood I-joists filter sunlight as it bounces off angular walls inspired by slot canyons. Blue Horizon Elementary School is a welcoming component of the community in which it lies. Building on ideas of a forward-looking educational delivery method, the new educational campus seeks to make learning happen everywhere!
