John Mitchell is an Associate Partner at Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture. The Chicago-based design firm is at the helm of several of the country’s most significant mass-timber projects, including Sterling Bay’s 2100 N. Southport project, anticipated to be Chicago’s tallest mass timber building; T3 West Midtown in Atlanta; Nashville Warehouse Company; and the INTRO project in Cleveland, which was the nation’s largest mass-timber construction building when completed in Spring 2022.
Since joining HPA in 2004, John has led the design team for several of the firm’s mass-timber projects, including INTRO and 1036 West Fulton, one of the first multi-story timber office buildings built in Chicago in a century. His project portfolio also includes complex mixed-use commissions, including the Graduate Hotel Nashville and 1225 Old Town in Chicago.
He is a frequent speaker about wood construction topics, and has juried several wood-design competitions for WoodWorks.
