At Hawaii Off Grid, we design for a better future, combining thoughtful innovation with sustainable solutions to create spaces that inspire and protect our planet. We are the largest architecture and engineering firm on Maui, specializing in off-grid water, wastewater, and energy systems, with an emphasis on mass timber construction. Our commitment to sustainability is evident in our requirement that all new builds meet "Net Zero" standards at a minimum, with a preference for "Net Positive" or fully off-grid designs.
Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, carbon-positive architecture that integrates renewable energy, cutting-edge technology, and efficient materials. From passive and active design strategies to incorporating aesthetics and performance, we push boundaries to reduce the carbon footprint of every project while maintaining beauty and functionality.
We take pride in our leadership and innovation. Recent highlights include breaking ground on Hawaii’s first fully mass timber residence on Kauai and completing Ohana Hope Village, an off-grid community project for families displaced by the Maui wildfires. In addition, we are offering free pre-approved building plans—several made with mass timber—for those who lost their homes in Lahaina, helping to rebuild lives with sustainable and resilient solutions.
Under the guidance of our founder and principal architect, David Sellers, who also serves as the current President of AIA Maui, Hawaii Off Grid continues to receive recognition, including being named Maui County’s Top Small Business. Every project we undertake embodies our belief in making the world a better place—one innovative, sustainable design at a time.
